What are the benefits of Reformer Pilates?

Updated: Nov 11, 2024

Both co-founders practice Reformer Pilates on a regular basis and are committed to sharing its benefits with the world (starting in Lindfield!). To become better at Reformer and to start feeling the benefits we advise to attend 2-3 classes a week. The more you practise, the better you will become.

Reformer Pilates has become increasingly popular within the last year or so. Like anything, when something becomes popular, people want to know what the benefits are and when will they see results. So, keep reading to find out more.

Regular practise of Reformer Pilates helps to increase muscle strength, endurance, flexibility, posture and balance. It also places a strong emphasis on core strength. There are so many benefits to strengthening the core as it improves posture, stability and overall physical health and performance.

It is also great for mental wellbeing as throughout the class, you focus on slow controlled movements whilst using breath work. These are just some of the Pilates principles, invented by Joseph Pilates.

There is a lot of misconception, that Reformer Pilates is easy, and for women only, this is not true! Reformer is for everyone, that is the beauty of it. At Cove, our classes are inclusive, but we also offer a men only class once a week called 'Flex', to break the taboo that Reformer is just for women.

In terms of intensity, in every class our instructors will always provide you with 'layers'. Layering an exercise will ramp up the intensity. As our classes are always full body workout, you are targeting multiple muscle groups and enhancing overall strength, muscle endurance and flexibility in ways not possible with many other forms of resistance training.
