Cove Reformer Studio 5 top tips to beat Blue Monday

What is Blue Monday?

Blue Monday was first introduced as part of a PR stunt by travel company Sky Travel. They worked with a UK-based psychologist Cliff Arnall, who revealed it was the most depressing day of the year.

Since Blue Monday was introduced over 18 years ago, numerous scientists and psychologists have described Blue Monday as "unscientific". Cliff Arnall has even said that "the Blue Monday concept is meaningless".

Our top tips to beat the blues

  1. Get out into the fresh air

The team at Cove love going for walks, getting our steps in. There are so many mental health benefits associated with moving and getting outdoors. If you tend to be affected by seasonal affective disorder, then getting outside into the daylight first thing in the morning, is an easy way to help yourself feel better.

  2. Exercise!

It's no brainer what our teams favourite exercise might be (Reformer Pilates obviously). Exercise releases endorphins, which can improve your mood and reduce stress and anger. Make sure to book your class at Cove Reformer Studio to release those endorphins!

  3. Practise gratitude

Life can be tough at times, we find that practising gratitude daily can really help shift perspective and improve your mood. There are lots of journals on the market which harness the power of positive psychology and gratitude to elevate your life, enhance relationships, and fuel personal growth. 1. Eat well

We all know we need to try and eat a well balanced diet! At Cove we're very lucky that Izzy is an in-house nutritionist, check out Izzy's website here. Our top tip would be to limit caffeine, and swap coffee for Matcha (our favourite!)

Izzy's famous matcha pancakes.

  1. Early night

Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day, routine makes everyone lives better. Our co-founders love to try and get an early night, they recommend putting your phone on airplane mode!
